In this review, your can clearly see the work of make-up and effective filters using the softbox and without. I tried to document all the parameters.
On the artistic value I do not pretend, the goal was comparison and experiment.
All photos without post-processing.
The first part: Softbox
Used Wed Master 65 cm
By the way, pay attention, I easily changed the filters with one hand, without removing the flash, just moved the light-transmitting fabric and quietly installed the filter in the holder, and this softbox is not so simple, it is made in the form of a folding umbrella, and inside the spacer spokes.
The lighting scheme is simple – one source from above, approximately 45 degrees, is shifted slightly to the left and background lighting is the second source. Flash Canon 580II, synchronizers Pixel King.
Plastic white sheet from below, to fill the excess shadow.
Model – torso of a mannequin named Lola;))
First, just a softbox, without filters. Power 1/4, zoom 105mm
Then make-up filters, the first Cosmetic Rouge, the second Soft Amber Key 1, the third Cosmetic Highlight, I liked him the most. But we must remember that this is a mannequin, its coverage emit zombie skin with a layer of makeup, but it is convenient to test the filters.
In real life, the skin of all is different, even after the makeup, because people make make-up, everyone has his own style and technique. At my fingertips are 5 filters with different temperature shades, in principle, you can pick something up.
An important point, with the filters had to add + 0.3-0.7 stop to the flash output.
As a background, I used a large cloth reflector, put the flash on the floor and directed it to the center of the reflector. Color filters from a effect set.
Power 1/16, zoom 28mm. Mannequin WITHOUT filter.
Immediately became more cheerful, lacking only the warmth of the skin of the mannequin. Adding make-up:
The latest version with Cosmetic Highlight.
It can be seen from the tests that the modeling light affects the background shade, next time I’ll try to test the influence of the ratio of distance and light power. Although this can be calculated based on the technical characteristics of the equipment. Set the background a little further and everything will be fine!
The second part: Hard Light
Photography is just a flash. Power 1/6, zoom 28mm
With a diffuse LEELux filter from the make-up kit.
Power 1/4, zoom 28mm
Not a softbox, but still noticeably softer than a bare flash. Do not forget to make pulse power corrections, in this case + 1.5-2 stops.
Added make-up filters:
Hard light certainly has its charm. In certain situations, it is more interesting than the scattered one. Of the obvious pluses – compactness, a set of gels and a folding holder with an elastic band will fit in the back pocket of your jeans, and in 10 seconds they can be installed on a flash.
The third part: Ceiling-Softbox
Let’s try to use fill light.
Naked flash 1/4, zoom 105mm, directed to the ceiling with a slight slope
Add make-up gels and background include
As for me, it turned out to be skewish, too homogeneous, probably more suitable for some kind of commercial or advertising photography…
I hope Your liked the review …
